5G Smartphone Shipments to top >140M in India by 2025 : CMR 4PS Report

New Delhi / Gurugram, March 3, 2109 : CMR (Cyber Media Research), a leading technology market research and advisory firm, has recently released the “CMR 4Ps of Mobile Handset Industry Report 2019” focusing on the hyper-competitive mobile handset industry ecosystem in India. The report, powered by OPPO, the innovation powerhouse, throws insight on the 5G-enabled future, among other emerging technology themes for smartphone industry.

According to Prabhu Ram, Head – Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), CMR, “Over the coming months, many smartphone brands would be looking to showing-off their prototype, or 5G-ready devices. The initial 5G-enabled devices would be at a high price point, and in the uber-premium segment.Smartphone brands, including OPPO and others, are likely to be the technology leaders in the 5G era.”

CMR research points to 5G-enabled smartphone shipments in India potentially surpassing 140 million by 2025, on the back of a slow and gradual uptake. 5G smartphone shipments are expected to grow by around 250% during this period.

“At CMR, we anticipate 5G to attain scale from 2022 onwards. As on date, there are various critical themes at play, including the impending 5G spectrum allocation later this year as well as the necessary technical and infrastructure upgradation required for 5G,” added Prabhu.
