Under Skill India Mission, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is delivering the skills including technological skills to the youth across the country through its various schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) and Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) to meet technological changes.
In order to re-skill and up-skill IT-professionals to be adept with the emerging technologies, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the aegis of MSDE has established ‘Future of Work’ initiative, and has designed and developed Qualification Packs (QPs) in association with IT-ITeS Sector Skill Council across 9 emerging technologies such as, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, Block Chain, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, Internet of Things, Robotic Process Automation, Social & Mobile Application and Virtual Reality. In addition, under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 3.0, focus has been given for skilling on digital technology and Industry 4.0.
- the areas of long term training, under the Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS) at Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), new courses were introduced in 2018, such as Smart Agriculture (Internet of Things), Smart Healthcare (Internet of Things), Smart City (Internet of Things), Remotely Piloted Aircraft, etc.
Further, to align the IT industry diaspora of India with dynamic world market, IT-ITeS Sector Skill Council has launched Future Skills platform. Future Skills portal uses the technology of the future, to create a space where a learner can access content on all the skills of the future. A learner can seamlessly access free and paid content, assessments, virtual labs and get certified on the skills of their choice. Future Skills focuses on 155+ skills spanning across 70+ job roles on 10 emerging technologies, namely, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, Block chain, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, Internet of Things, Mobile Tech, Robotic Process Automation, Virtual Reality & 3D Printing.
At present, MSDE has not proposed to constitute any law for establishment of entities imparting technological skills. However, National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) under MSDE is an overarching skills regulator mandated to regulate the functioning of entities engaged in vocational education and training, both long term and short term, and to establish minimum standards for the functioning of such entities.
