GlobalData’s Job Analytics Database reveals that the Active Jobs Index in the UK fell by 9.4% in September 2022, with active jobs continuing on a downward trend in Q3 2022 as UK labour markets face inflationary pressures. The leading data and analytics company found that job closures were 7% higher than new job postings during September, resulting in a decline in active jobs open for recruitment.
Sherla Sriprada, Business Fundamentals Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “GlobalData’s UK Active Jobs Index is comparable to the official UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) Job Openings data as both datasets have predicted a similar trajectory.”
Industries that have been impacted by a decline in active jobs include travel & tourism, technology, power, and banking & payments. On the other hand, industries such as healthcare, automotive, aerospace and defense have seen an increase in active jobs. Some of the noteable companies that witnessed an increase in active jobs include Barchester Healthcare Ltd, Bridgestone Corp, and Raytheon Technologies Corp.
Sriprada adds: “Several companies also announced layoffs during September 2022. For instance, Checkout Ltd laid off 100 jobs, Pilgrim’s Pride is planning to close its Bury St Edmunds and Coalville sites, and the BBC announced significant reductions in its World Service output, resulting in 226 job losses in the UK and 156 internationally.”
