Talking With Trees

How are artists using technology to connect us more deeply with the environment? Curator Lucia Pietroiusti explores how art and technology can encourage us to challenge how we think of our place in the world and our human responsibilities within it. We meet two prolific artists working with digital social space encouraging us to speak up, take care and develop new relations with the more-than-human world. Talking trees and soliloquizing slugs; through the interactive artwork and app ‘Earth Speakr’, artist Olafur Eliasson asks children from around the world to co-design the future they will inherit, giving voice to the natural world through augmented reality loudspeakers. Artist Marina Zurkow meanwhile uses animation and software technologies, combining humour and activism in her ‘Climoji’; emojis; conversational tools to be deployed in the fight against climate change.
