Google recently announced a host of new Android features and a new logo! The new features are about improving productivity and connectivity, while the new logo draws inspiration from Google’s Material Design.
Here are some new features announced by Google
Android smartphone users will soon have a new Assistant At a Glance widget that shows helpful information on the home screen. The new feature, available on devices running Android 9 or later will display travel updates, weather alerts, and reminds – all packaged into a simple assistant to eliminate the need to check multiple apps.
Visual content’s accessibility
Google is making visual content more accessible on the Android ecosystem by allowing people with vision loss or blindness to easily digest visual content. On the Google Lookout visual assistant app, the company is making Image Q&A simpler by using AI.
The service will be able to generate more detailed descriptions to questions about images in a user’s camera and social media apps. Users would have to type or speak out their question about the picture they’re look at on their Android phone.

Joining conference calls through your car
Soon, users would be able to take conference calls from your car’s display as updates roll out to Android Auto. The calls will be available via audio to prevent distraction on the road.
Sleep stats
If you use a wearable that supports Google Fit or Fitbit activity, you will soon be able to get daily morning updates on how you slept. Users would be able to hear more about how they slept by setting up Routines via Google’s Home app.
Google Assistant will give you a recap of your sleep when you say “Hey Google, good morning” into the app.

Digitise barcodes on Google Wallet
While Google Wallet isn’t available in India, the service will soon let users create digitise versions of all cards that have a barcode or QR code without worrying about losing them. As opposed to earlier, users can now simply take a photo of the card with the corresponding QR details instead of feeding them into the system manually.
Google is currently gearing up for the launch of Android 14 this autumn and new features will be announced as we get closer to the launch.
