  • Job postings across the globe declined by 29.3% YoY in Q3 2023
  • Key tech themes with most job postings include Big Data, Cloud, and AI
  • Cargill, Tesla, AECOM, Marriott International, and IBM were among the top recruiters

The third quarter (Q3) of 2023 saw many companies across the globe announcing layoffs amidst a continuous decline in job postings. Major players like Citigroup Inc, Cisco Systems Inc, General Motors Co, Nestle SA, FedEx Corp, Accenture Plc, and Wells Fargo & Co were among the companies that announced job cuts. Despite this, Healthcare, Retailing and Foodservice witnessed an increased year-on-year (YoY) share in global job postings. Key themes driving hiring trends were Big Data, Cloud, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) during the quarter, reveals the Job Analytics Database of GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s latest report, “Global Hiring Activity Trends & Signals – Q3 2023,” reveals that the global hiring activity (posted jobs) continued to decline by 29.3% YoY and 11% QoQ in Q3 2023.

The US, the UK, Germany, India, and Canada lead with the most job postings in Q3 2023. YoY share in global job postings improved for the UK, Australia, and Germany.

Sherla Sriprada, Business Fundamentals Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Industries with most job postings were Retail, Healthcare and Technology and Communications. Though Travel & Tourism remained resilient, hiring in the sector was conservative amidst a widespread decline in active jobs across industries. Tesla, Marriott International, and IBM were among the top recruiters during the same period.”

Social Media, Metaverse, and Batteries were other notable themes with high job postings. Contactless Retail and Autonomous Vehicles were the leading industry themes.

Sriprada concludes: “The share of jobs looking for Enterprise Social Networking and Collaboration Platforms related skills improved YoY during the quarter. Other technical skills with more job postings include Product Lifecycle Management Applications; Colocation Services; Vertical-Specific and Packaged Applications; and Customer Relationship Management Applications.”
