BRUSSELS: Alphabet unit Google’s €2.42-billion (US$2.65 billion) EU antitrust fine should be upheld by Europe’s top court, an adviser to the court said on Thursday.
The European Commission handed down the fine to the company in 2017 for using its own price comparison shopping service to gain an unfair advantage over smaller European rivals.
Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) Juliane Kokott said judges should “confirm the fine of 2.4 billion euros imposed on Google for favouring its own comparison shopping service”.
The case is C-48/22 P Google and Alphabet v Commission (Google Shopping).
