Tech stocks among Bursa Malaysia’s top gainers

KUALA LUMPUR: Technology and semiconductor-related stocks are among the top gainers on Bursa Malaysia on Thursday after U.S. chipmaker Nvidia’s outlook beat market expectations.

Malaysian Pacific Industries, the top gainer on Bursa Malaysia, surged RM2.60 to RM28.78. Vitrox Corp rose 43 sen to RM7.64, Pentamaster gained 19 sen to RM4.54 and Frontken Corp added 18 sen to RM3.74.

Dufu Technology gained 13 sen to RM1.87 and Unisem climbed six sen to RM3.28.

Despite the strong showing by technology-related stocks, Bursa Malaysia ended the day lower.

The FBM KLCI closed down 6.91 points, or 0.45% to 1,545.49, with 18 of the component stocks ending lower while seven counters chalked up gains.

On the broader market, stocks that rose outnumbered those that fell 571 to 462, with another 494 counters unchanged. A total of 3.7 billion shares changed hands, worth RM2.57bil.

Among the losers on Bursa Malaysia, Allianz slid 42 sen to RM18.64, PPB fell 30 sen to RM15.20, Nestle lost 30 sen to RM121.70 and United Plantations declined 28 sen to RM20.72.

The ringgit was quoted at 4.7720 against the greenback, appreciating 0.47% at 5.10 pm.

The local currency is up 0.2% against the Singapore dollar at 3.5597. It fell 0.17% against the euro at 5.1867 and down 0.22% against the pound sterling at 6.0599.

Among the key regional markets:

Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed up 2.19% to 39,098.68;

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 1.45% to 16,742.95;

China’s CSI 300 Index advanced 0.86% to 3,486.67;

Taiwan’s Taiex added 0.94% to 18,852.78;

South Korea’s Kospi advanced 0.41% to 2,664.27 and;

Singapore’s Straits Times Index rose 0.18% to 3,222.94 points.
