March 13 – India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of the chip fabrication unit of Tata-Powerchip Semiconductor at Dholera in Gujarat.
He virtually inaugurated the CG Power-Renesas outsourced assembly and test (OSAT) facility at Sanand (Gujarat) and the Tata OSAT unit at Morigaon (Assam). The three projects are estimated to be worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore.
Dholera, dubbed the “Semicon City of India,” will host the country’s inaugural commercial semiconductor fabrication facility. PM Modi emphasized the government’s forward-thinking approach, aiming to position India’s semiconductor industry on par with global counterparts.
Addressing the significance of the projects, PM Modi stated, “Today is a historic day. These projects in Gujarat and Assam will make the country a manufacturing hub of the world.” He highlighted India’s aspirations to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution and underscored the government’s swift action in advancing the semiconductor sector.
Reflecting on lessons from the pandemic, PM Modi stressed the importance of reliable and resilient supply chains, with India poised to play a pivotal role. He affirmed India’s commitment to delivering on its promises, echoing the sentiment that democracy delivers.
PM Modi emphasized India’s prowess in space, nuclear, and digital sectors, foreseeing the nation’s emergence as a global semiconductor power. He lauded the role of students and youth in the event, emphasizing their pivotal role in India’s semiconductor journey.
Highlighting the transformative potential of semiconductor manufacturing, PM Modi projected it as a catalyst for India’s technological progress and economic growth. He pledged government support for startups, envisioning India’s ascent to the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem.
Condemning past administrations for neglecting semiconductor manufacturing, PM Modi criticized their failure to seize opportunities. He lamented the lack of urgency and bold decision-making, accusing previous governments of prioritizing corruption over national interests.
