‘Google Is Wrong’ Signboard
In the past, finding the right directions while travelling involved using paper maps or asking locals. However, technology has simplified this process with navigation apps like Apple Maps and Google Maps. Despite their claim of never missing anything, these apps can be unreliable at times. While they are great for planning routes and travel plans, they have also been known to lead people astray, resulting in some amusing and unusual situations.
One such incident has recently gone viral on social media wherein locals in Karnataka‘s Kodagu district draw attention to Google’s error in navigation by erecting a makeshift signboard warning travellers of Google’s navigation mistake. The signboard urges commuters to not follow Google’s navigation in the said location and to take a different route to reach the Club Mahindra resort.
“Google is wrong. This road does not go to Club Mahindra,” said the signboard. The image was shared by the X handle of Kodagu Connect.

Several users shared their experiences of being misled by Google navigation. One of the users said, “Google local guides like me (volunteers) could have corrected the wrong listing. But google has an admin team that love rejecting edits randomly. So let someone from Google fly down and fix it. Till then let people curse them like this.”
Another user said, “Many of my edits are not processed and I see mail from Google says edits accepted, but not reflecting in maps. Tired after multiple tries.”
“Once we climb up the mountains, Google always gets it wrong. Once I remember how we traveled from kukke Subramanya to Madikeri via sullia. Google made us take a random right in which we traveled for 80+ km realizing we are on wrong and got correct route by local person,” another user shared.
