New Delhi: The Swiss Agency’s report regarding pollution has once again increased concerns about pollution. According to the air quality report released by Swiss organization IQ Air, Begusarai has been declared the most polluted city with an average PM 2.5 concentration of 118.39 micrograms per cubic metre. The current air quality index of Begusarai is beyond 400.
The world’s most polluted capital Delhi
According to the report of this agency, Delhi is the most polluted capital of the world. Delhi’s PM 2.5 level has deteriorated from 89.1 micrograms per cubic meter in 2022 to 92.7 micrograms per cubic meter in 2023. Since the year 2018, Delhi has been continuously getting the status of the most polluted capital of the world.
Pollution level is decreasing in Delhi-Gopal Rai
Delhi’s Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that Delhi is a state where the level of pollution is continuously decreasing. PM 10 and PM 2.5 levels have declined from 2015 to 2023. Last year we had 206 days of better air quality.
Chandra Bhushan, environmentalist and president of the International Forum for Environment, Sustainability and Technology, said that pollution levels in Delhi between October 2023 and February 2024 were higher than in the past few years. Pollution is present throughout the Ganges and Indus plains. He said that we need to think why despite working to fight air pollution, we are not getting results.
Many deadly diseases due to pollution
Increase in the level of pollution and amount of fine dust in the air can cause many fatal diseases. Cancer, diabetes, asthma and lung diseases trouble people. Increasing pollution levels also adversely affect the mental health of children.
