Western Dakota Tech gives high school students a glimpse of the future

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) – High School students across the Black Hills got the chance to see what college and their eventual career might look like today with Western Dakota Tech’s annual All-Program Camp.

The camp itself consists of juniors and seniors at High Schools in the area with each student selecting two career paths they’re most interested in. When they arrive at Western Dakota Tech they are then taken to a classroom related to the field they want to know more about.

Many of the programs discussed had active classes, so the High School students got the opportunity to learn alongside college students.

Director of Admissions Diana Newman says the main thing that separates this from a typical career fair is the individualized approach.

“So this event really highlights what being in our labs in our shops in our state of the art labs looks like for students so students really get the chance to experience what a fit looks like here,” said Newman.

Newman mentioned that all the students at the event were able to attend classes for their first and second career choice.
