BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech head coach Katy Freels announced the hire of Scott Wilson as the new assistant coach of the women’s soccer program.

“I am excited to bring Scott on board and integrate him into our Florida Tech family,” said Freels. “With his incredible experience both playing and coaching and his international background, Scott will be an invaluable resource for our scholar-athletes.

“Scott’s infectious personality, enthusiasm, and passion for the game stand out to me, but even more importantly, he understands the relationship component of coaching and making a difference in the lives of our scholar-athletes.”

Wilson comes to Florida Tech after serving as the interim head women’s soccer coach at Lake Erie College, a Division II program out of Painesville, Ohio, and a member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), since December 2022. In the 2023 season, he led the Storm to the program’s most wins in a single season since 2019.

“I am thrilled to join the Florida Tech Women’s Soccer coaching staff,” said Wilson.

“I am excited and honored to be working with our incredibly talented scholar-athletes, guiding them to excel both on the field and in their academic endeavors. A huge thank you to Coach Katy for welcoming me into this incredible program and I can’t wait to contribute and help lead the team to further success.”

Before his stint as interim head coach, Wilson served as the graduate assistant for Lake Erie where he helped with recruiting, running practices and camps, and ran the team’s social media accounts.

Before joining the Lake Erie staff, Wilson was a member of the University of Wisconsin-Superior men’s soccer squad from 2019-2021 where he totaled 49 starts in 49 games on the backline for the Yellowjackets. He scored eight goals and totaled eight assists in over 3400 minutes on the pitch.

A two-time team captain at UW-Superior, Wilson helped lead the Yellowjackets to three straight United Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season and tournament titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances. Named the 2021 UMAC Defender of the Year, Wilson also garnered three all-conference honors, one all-region award, and was a five-time academic all-conference recipient.

Wilson graduated from UW-Superior with his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in May 2022 and is set to complete his Master of Business Administration from Lake Erie this April.
