It turns out there’s a very crafty Google travel hack that can save you hundreds of pounds. And with the summer holidays imminent, this lifesaver could see you jet off to one of the corners of the globe for a lot less.
It’s simple too, using a private browser – or ‘incognito’ as it’s known on Google Chrome – search for Google Travel. At the top of the page select the ‘explore’ option, which then opens a window with a map of the world, with search options on your left.
Select your dates, and how many adults are flying, however there is one thing you need to do. When you type in where you’re flying from, just type ‘London’ – DO NOT put in a specific airport.

Similarly, leave the destination box blank. For example, MyLondon selected that it wanted to fly from London on Wednesday, June 26, and return the following Wednesday, on July 3, and we found a round-trip to New York for just £410 – bargain!
However, if you want to fly this year, you must renew your passport before April 11 or risk incurring a penalty. This is because parliament is set to debate new proposals that will increase the prices of renewal.
The new proposals will see a standard online application made from within the UK rise to £88.50 from £82.50 for adults and £57.50 from £53.50 for children. Standard postal applications will increase to £100.00 for adults and £69.00 for children – rising from £93 and £64.
The government say that the new fees would ‘help ensure that income from these applications better meets the cost of delivering passport and associated operations’ and reduce the funding needed from taxes.
