Texas Tech golf climbs to third on day two of Baton Rouge Regional

BATON ROUGE, La. (NEWS RELEASE) – With two rounds in the books at the Baton Rouge Regional, the No. 14 Texas Tech men’s golf team sits in third place after ending round one tied for sixth. The Red Raiders posted a collective 1-under-par 287 on Tuesday — a round-two low among the 14 teams in action at the University Club of Baton Rouge.

Tech was led on day two by Baard Skogen and Matthew Comegys, who both carded under-par scores in round two. Comegys was the biggest riser of the two, as he shook off a 3-over-par 75 in round one with a team-best 2-under-par 70 in round two. As a result, the sophomore rose 21 spots and sits tied for 16th among the 72 players in action.

Skogen, meanwhile, posted his second straight 1-under-par 71 and sits tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard at 2-under-par (142) — just four shots back of Duke’s Ethan Evans for the individual lead. The senior has now shot par or better in all eight NCAA Regional rounds in his career dating back to the 2021 Albuquerque Regional and has shot under par in five of the eight.

Calum Scott was the third Red Raider to end Tuesday inside the top 20. Scott fired a 1-over-par 73 in round two — a day after an impressive 2-under-par 70 in round one — and sits tied for seventh at 1-under-par (143).

Tyran Snyders matched Scott in round two with a 1-over-par 73, rebounding from the 3-over-par 75 he posted in round one. The senior sits tied for 27th on the individual leaderboard, a 17-spot improvement from day one.

The Red Raiders will conclude the Baton Rouge Regional on Wednesday with the third and final round, which is scheduled to have tee times between 8:00 a.m. and 10:09 a.m. CT. Tech is scheduled for the early-morning slot (8:00-8:44 a.m.) starting at 8 a.m. with Vicente Marzilio.

The top five teams and one individual will advance to the National Championship; between the 14 teams at the Baton Rouge Regional, Texas Tech will need to finish as one of the top five teams. Of teams that fail to qualify, the lowest individual scorer will advance to the finals, which will be decided between the nine non-advancing teams and the five who qualified for the regional as an individual.
