The competition for best autonomous performance is on, and the Dreame L40 Ultra is the latest to enter the race at IFA 2024.

The L40 Ultra robot vacuum and mop offers 11,000Pa of suction and a hands-free auto-empty experience that the company says can hold up to 75 days. The large 3.2-liter dust bag can hold over two months’ worth of dust and debris, while the self-cleaning base station washes the mop and the washboard.

“Dreame’s cutting-edge technology and engineering are revolutionizing the way consumers achieve a truly effortless cleaning experience, allowing them to focus on what matters most while enjoying a pristine home,” said Ana Wang, General Manager of Dreame Technology North America. “The L40 Ultra exemplifies our commitment to delivering superior cleaning solutions for every living space, from urban apartments to suburban homes. Once again, we’ve set the standard in cleaning technology, empowering users to live their best lives.”

The Dreame L40 Ultra’s mops and side brush automatically extend to reach areas that robot vacuums tend to miss, like corners, the space under cabinets, and low furniture.

The robot vacuum also combines an RGB camera and 3D structured light for navigation, aided by a built-in LED light to see in dark areas. Comparatively, other robot vacuums rely on LiDAR proximity sensors to navigate in dimmer environments.

Dreame says the L40 Ultra uses the information seen on its camera to identify room types, like a kitchen or bedroom, floor types, and stains, and recommend the best cleaning strategy. How such a feature handles security and privacy remains in the air, but we’ll be sure to test it soon.

Unlike the flagship Dreame X40 Ultra, the L40 Ultra has a built-in voice assistant you can wake by saying, “Okay, Dreame,” to control the robot or command to clean. It’s also compatible with Alexa, Siri, and Google Home.

Along these lines, this robot vacuum seems similar to the X40 Ultra, with strong suction, a Dual Flex Arm for mopping, and dirt detection. It’s more affordable than the X40 Ultra, as the Dreame L40 Ultra retails at $1,500. Users can apply an Amazon clip-on coupon for a limited time to save an additional $200.
