Ajay Thalluri, Business Fundamentals Analyst at GlobalData, says: “Accenture is innovating and building solutions for companies through IoT. GlobalData’s Job Analytics database shows that IoT is the top theme for Accenture, as the company has listed over 2,100 jobs related to this technology since July 2020. Most jobs related to this theme were posted in India, followed by the US.”
Accenture is creating IoT architecture, infrastructure design, and technology for multiple IoT platforms, including products for industries. Additionally, a majority of IoT jobs are for developing solutions on various cloud platforms. The company is also developing IoT solutions focusing on enabling applications and use cases for the Federal Government through its subsidiary, Accenture Federal Service (AFS).
The company posted over 300 job postings with reference to ‘Industry X’ between January 2021 – June 2021. Interestingly, most of these jobs were posted in Q2 2021. The team is building high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure, which is key to strategic global growth initiatives in areas such as communication, media, and technology.
Interestingly, Accenture’s 2021 acquisitions were mostly for the Industry X group. Its acquisition of Electro 80 is aimed at digitizing manufacturing, operations and engineering. In June 2021, the company announced to acquire engineering and technology firm umlaut SE. The move is set to help Accenture expand Industry X across a range of industries such as automotive, aerospace and defense, telecommunications, energy and utilities.
Most of Accenture’s job postings are for software developers and testers. Key jobs include ‘Federal – Edge/IoT Architect and Delivery Manager’; ‘Industrial IoT Platform Testing Tester’; ‘Industrial IoT Platform Testing Tester’; ‘Industry X.0 IoT – Senior Manager’; and ‘Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) Delivery Consultant’.
Thalluri concludes: “For Accenture, IoT is a key theme the company is focusing on and this is reflected in its hiring trend, which could maintain momentum over the coming months. The company received grants for over 150 patents since 2016 related to the IoT theme, according to GlobalData’s Filing Analytics database. Additionally, Industry X saw double-digit growth in Q2 2021, which suggests the company is prioritizing emerging tech.”
