Amazon India has announced that the company will soon start manufacturing Fire TV Stick devices and similar products in the region. The move comes as a result of the Indian government’s “Make in India” movement.
The manufacturing contract has been awarded to a Foxconn-subsidiary called Cloud Network Technology which is located in Chennai. and start production later this year. According to Amazon, hundreds of thousands of Fire TV Stick products might be made yearly depending on the local demand for the devices. Production is slated to begin at a later point this year.
Shri. Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Indian minister for communications, electronics and IT as well as law and justice, spoke to Amazon India’s senior vice president and country head, Amit Agarwal, about the tech giant’s decision. Speaking of the talks held between the parties, Prasad commented:
Agarwal also released a statement revisiting Amazon’s previously announced commitment to invest $1 billion in the Indian economy to help digitize ten million SMEs. The move was announced in January when Amazon India signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Karnataka.
The deal aims to put local businesses on the global map and enable them to tap international markets, bringing in $10 billion from exports. In addition, Amazon India also pledged that by the year 2025, it will create one million job positions in the Indian region. These initiatives were taken in collaboration with the Indian government to increase e-commerce exports.
