CHARGING STATIONS FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Posted On: 20 DEC 2024 5:32PM by PIB Delhi

The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has been promoting the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in India.  On September 29, 2024, MHI notified the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) scheme to accelerate EV adoption, establish charging infrastructure and foster the development of the EV manufacturing ecosystem in the country.  This scheme has a budget of ₹10,900 crore for a two-year period.    Of the total allocated budget, ₹2,000 crore has been kept for the installation of Electric Vehicle Public Charging Stations (EVPCS).

Further, Ministry of Power (MoP) has issued “Guidelines for Installation and Operation of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure-2024” on September 17, 2024, outlining standards and protocols to create connected & interoperable Electric Vehicles (EV) charging infrastructure network in the country.

As per the information received from Ministry of Power, 25,202 EVPCS are installed in the country. The number of EVPCS installed State/UT wise is at ANNEXURE-I.

As per the information received from Ministry of Power, 271 EVPCS are installed in the state of Chhattisgarh. District wise number of EVPCS installed is at ANNEXURE-II.

As per the information received from NITI Aayog, charging infrastructure requirement depends upon the composition of electric vehicles, running patterns, terrain & geography, urbanisation pattern, the technology of EVs and the technology of charging equipment. Since, all these factors are still evolving, there is no global consensus on number of charging points required for a certain number of EVs.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Steel, Shri Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
