Dredging Corporation of India, a leader in the Dredging Industry has announced the exchange of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch National Joint M.Tech Programme on ” Dredging Engineering” between Dredging Corporation of India Limited, Visakhapatnam, Indian Institute of Technology Chennai & Indian Maritime University (IMU),Chennai in the august presence of Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Government of India at the Stakeholder’s meet conducted at – C. Subramaniam Auditorium, Indian Agricu1tural Research Institute, New Delhi for “Implementation of MOUs signed during Global Maritime Summit 2023”.
This exchange of MOU is a collaborative effort & aims to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in the maritime industry and contribute to the development of world-class talent in this critical sector. Further, this MOU is a big step forward to foster cooperation for the National joint M.Tech Programme in ” Dredging Engineering”. This Programme is the shared responsibility of the Department of Ocean Engineering, IIT Madras (IITM), & the School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering Indian Maritime University (IMU) in collaboration with Dredging Corporation of India Limited, Visakhapatnam.
The National Joint Master Programme (2) envisaged to be run by IIT Chennai, Indian Maritime University (IMU) and Dredging Corporation of India Limited. This is a collaborative exercise & has a scope of about 200-210 credits in total. First two semesters will be of coursework with about 110 credits. The third semester would consist of onboard and landside training for dredging projects. The fourth semester will be project work in any of the institutions. Course work consists of core (mandatory) and elective courses. Students start their first semester at IITM in Che.rnai, India, and then move to IMU, Visakhapatnam/Chennai for their second semester. For the third semester, students are at DCIL doing landside and onboard work and for the fourth semester, students are free to choose the location for their master thesis.
This exchange of MOU represents a significant milestone in the efforts to enhance research, innovation, and technology development in maritime infrastructure and dredging operations. This collaboration underscores the shared commitment of Dredging Corporation of India Limited, Indian Institute of Technology Chennai & Indian Maritime University (IMU), Chennai to leverage their respective expertise and resources for the benefit of the maritime industry and the nation as a whole to promote advancements in the maritime and dredging sector.
