With Nigeria’s economy undergoing a revamp, engineers under the aegis of the Nigerian lnstitution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMecHE) have reiterated commitment to advance technology and promote homegrown talents.
Immediate past President of the institution, Mrs Olufunmilade Akingbagbohun, who disclosed this, said NIMechE will drive this agenda through an expo that will feature products, ranging from cutting-edge machinery and automotive innovations to renewable energy solutions and sustainable manufacturing processes.
She explained that engineers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and students through the expo will have the opportunity to explore the latest trends, exchange ideas, and network with industry experts. “The vibrant city of Ibadan in Oyo State is poised to become a hub of innovation and engineering excellence, as this event promises to showcase groundbreaking inventions, foster collaboration among engineers, and inspire the next generation of problem solvers,” she said.
According to her, Ibadan is uniquely positioned to benefit from the influx of talent and investment those innovators hubs can attract with its rich history, vibrant culture, and growing reputation as a centre of excellence in science and technology.
Among topics to be explored are smart manufacturing, robotics, artificial intelligence, and green technology. It will serve as a platform for showcasing the ingenuity and creativity of Nigerian engineers, highlighting their contributions to national development and global competitiveness.
“One of the key objectives of innovators hubs is to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing among stakeholders in the engineering community. By bringing together professionals from various disciplines and sectors, the innovators expo aims to catalyse innovation, drive economic growth, and address pressing challenges facing society,” she added.
