Hyderabad – April 19, 2018 : Today Uber and Hyderabad Metro announced partnership that will make getting around the city even more easier. From reduced travel time to reliable first/last-mile connectivity, this partnership will also alleviate the demand for parking thereby reducing congestion in the city.
Through this partnership, Uber will be launching Uber Kiosks at 24 metro stations across the city to help riders book their ride at the metro stations. Uber representatives will also be available at these counters to ensure metro commuters get a reliable and affordable ride to their next destination, without having to worry about access to a smartphone or internet connectivity.
Commenting on the announcement, Dr. Patnam Mahender Reddy, Transport Minister, Government of Telangana said, “Citizens often travel long distances, whether it’s commuting to work or college. HMRL has always kept the interest of its commuters at the centre of its functioning. It is important to connect more parts of the city, that will eventually help them save time and money. Through this partnership, we are looking forward to encouraging more and more people to use mass transportation that will effectively connect different points of the city.”
Barney Harford, COO, Uber said, “All great cities have great public transit systems, and it’s fantastic to see Hyderabad leading in this regard. Our goal around the world is to integrate ridesharing with transit to ensure seamless commutes. By making it easy to get to and from metro stations, we are reducing the need for private car ownership and making infrastructure accessible to the citizens of Hyderabad. We are excited to partner with HMRL, and align with the Telangana Government’s smart city vision for Hyderabad.”
Through this partnership, metro commuters can enjoy the ease of booking an Uber ride across all active stations in Hyderabad, starting with Miyapur, Ameerpet, KPHB, Begumpet and JNTU stations over the next few weeks. Uber will work closely with HMLR to enable seamless last-mile connectivity for riders as the Hyderabad metro launches additional lines and stations in their subsequent phases of metro development.
