Would an Android-backed refrigerator, laptop, or smart glasses make sense to you? Google just announced a new software kit for developers who want to implement Android beyond typical phones, tablets, and TVs.
According to its blog post, the new multi-device SDK lets developers create user experiences (UX) across various form factors and platforms. Essentially, the SDK makes it possible to create Android devices and appliances that can connect more easily with each other, allowing users to continue usage on a different device where needed.
This SDK was first announced at Google I/O 2022, like many of the releases that also appeared during the annual multi-day developer conference.
The new Cross Device Software Development Kit (SDK) for Android is now live for developers to preview it. The SDK has many new APIs for three core components: device discovery (find nearby devices), secure connectivity, and multi-device sessions (transfer or extend usage across different devices).
