Hi-tech drones at Sabah’s doorstep

Kota Kinabalu: Various sectors and industries will benefit from high-tech drones which can be acquired at Sabah-based Drone Eutopia Sdn Bhd which opened, here, on Wednesday.
Its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Yong Yit Yoong said the company is introducing new technology drones which are first of its kind.
“We have six types of drones for surveillance, agriculture, construction and event illumination, emergency, search and rescue operations, drone light show, and mapping.
“Five are the first of its kind to be used in Sabah and Malaysia except for agriculture drones,” he said, at the grand opening at Likas Bay.
Yong said the agriculture drones are among the first to be implemented in Sabah, citing one which had covered 4,000 hectares at only 40 per cent of its full capacity.
“We will bring in more efficient agricultural drones to serve the farmers and the country’s food security.
“We will train the farmers until they are confident of navigating the drone, efficiently and effectively,” he said. Yong said his company is also tapping the tourism industry including underwater.
He said the underwater drones can also be used for search and rescue (SAR) operations in the sea or river.
“We also have a drone that can operate up to six hours and carry out many types of mission, surveillance, maintenance and even cloud seeding if needed.
“We will also be bringing in Docking System that allows people with practically no flying experience to operate them with ease and getting the data they want.
“The system allows our drone to change up to four batteries per docking system, while the others continue to charge, allowing drones to carry out missions whenever and wherever,” he said.
Illumination drones are used to light up the size of a football field for three months as long as its cables are connected to electricity supply and it is energy saving.
“During the global pandemic, I saw a company providing this drone for sites workers to build the Wu Han Hospital in just 10 days.
“I was intrigued and amazed that the drones were there when they need it, which sparked my interest and motivate me to open up my own drone company here.
The company also has plans to take part in educating students from primary schools to universities level by providing them the technologies so that soon, the children will be prepared to participate in the era of technologies.
