Attacks on more than 1200 institutions
According to the data released by the researchers, there have been 67 active ransomware-as-a-service and extortion groups as well as more than 1,200 institutions that have been attacked. Ransomware attackers resorted to new and tried-and-tested methods to attack Linux OS users. Researchers this year also discovered a new ransomware variant called ‘cheerscript’ that targets ESXi servers.
The team of researchers says that these attackers infect servers by leaving viruses, which are used on a large scale by enterprises. This infection poses a major threat to the infrastructure and security of any institution.
