• Over 3,000 visitors from academia and industry attended R & D Showcase 2019
• Weekend of demos, interactions and presentations
Hyderabad, India, March 6, 2019 : IIIT-Hyderabad’s annual R&D showcase 2019 was held on 23rd February at IIIT Hyderabad. The 2-day event saw the general public interacting with faculty and students to understand their work in more tangible forms through demos, prototypes and presentations in keeping with the institute’s endeavour to promote applied research that benefits society.
Currently in its 18th edition, the event has grown from strength year–on-year. There were a total of 290 posters, demos and models for visitors to browse through. Over 3,000 eager visitors from industry, academia, media and investors attended the various events during the weekend showcase.
Speaking on the success of R&D Showcase 2018, Prof Vasudeva Varma, Dean, Research, IIITH said, “It was encouraging to see visitors’ interest in the technologies developed at IIIT Hyderabad. We’re looking forward to continued interaction with our industry and research partners and to see our technologies making a significant impact on society”.
In parallel to the showcase were several interesting talks. These included a panel discussion with Prof VasudevaVarma, Dean (R&D), IIIT-H, Prof Jayanthi Sivawamy, Dean (academics), IIIT-H, PankajVaish, MD (India), Cognitive Scale and DrSatyaPrakash Dash, Director Global Innovations Impact Lab at PATH on The Role of Emerging Technology and Research in Medicine and Healthcare.
There was also a keynote talk by Prof ArunTangirala from Dept of Chemical Engineering, IIT-Madras. IIIT-H professors SujitGujar and KannanSrinathan spoke about AI and blockchain. On Sunday, Prof Jayanthi Sivawamy and Dhananjaya Dendukuri, CEO and co-founder of Achira Labs shared their views on research trends and relevance to healthcare technologies.
IIIT-Hyderabad has opened admissions for its UG courses so the R&D Showcase was the ideal opportunity for prospective students who witness the reseach that takes place at the institute.
