The Indian Railways plans to produce 1,000 Amrit Bharat trains and 500 Vande Bharat trains over the coming years with plans to export these train sets, said Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Indian Railways has a witnessed significant technological prowess over the last 10 years, added Vaishnaw.

New Delhi: The Indian Railways plans to manufacture 1,00 Amrit Bharat trains as well as 500 Vande Bharat trains, said Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. He added that India is also planning to export Vande Bharat trains abroad owing to global demand for the slick home-grown train. Amrit Bharat trains, which were unveiled last year, offering affordable multi-class travel.
“Amrit Bharat train…a world-class train which is carrying 1,000 km at a price of Rs 454… that is the kind of affordability which is being provided,” said Railways Minister Vaishnaw in an interview. The government plans to run the Amrit Bharat trains for at least 5 years before it is considered for exports, said Vaishnaw.

The government aims to improve it again and again. The Centre is now working on version 3 of Amrit Bharat. “With every version, we are making improvements, we are making changes in the design. We are getting to a level where the train can be exported,” he added.
The first Amrit Bharat is likely to be exported in the coming 5 years.
Tech advances in Railways
The world’s highest railway bridge Chenab Bridge was conducted using complex technology. IT witnesses 180 kmph wind speeds. It is also a highly seismically prone zone, said Vaishnaw. This shows the significant tech advancement in Railways over the past 10 years, the railways minister added.
First under-river tunnel inauguration Kolkata
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the country’s first under-river tunnel for the Kolkata Metro in West Bengal on March 6, 2024, said Vaishnaw. The Kolkata Metro started in the 1970s. More work has been done on the metro in the last 10 years than that seen in the first 40 years.

That’s the kind of emphasis the Prime Minister places on creating an infrastructural foundation for a developed India by 2047, said Vaishnaw.
