• As according to App Annie Data, leading app markets data and insights company
New Delhi, July 111, 2018 : Inshorts, India’s news app has been studied as the stickiest news app among the Top 10 News & Magazine Category apps on an Android phone in India in May 2018; according to app market data and insights company, App Annie.
Focused on curating interesting relevant content for millennials, Inshorts has a massive user base in almost all cities of India with a majority of users from tier I and tier II cities. The users are active for an average of 15.4 days per month and 4.3 days per week. According to App Annie data, Inshorts users are active for the highest number of days in a month among the Top 10 apps in the News & Magazines category on Android phone, ahead of the most downloaded apps in the category like Twitter and DailyHunt.
A higher stickiness is generally seen for social apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and others. It is striking to see such kind of user behaviour towards a news app. Inshorts App which provides 60-word news summaries has managed to keep its users hooked for an average of 15 days in a month. None of the conventional news apps have seen such kind of traction from the users in the past. This clearly shows that there is a significant shift in the news consumption pattern with a growing preference for short-form content and curated news.
“Being able to intelligently curate the most significant news items of the day across categories like national, world, politics, business, sports, technology, and entertainment, we have been able to cater to the reading patterns of millennials across the country. With the core focus of creating an engaging user experience on the app, our strategy helped us get more loyal users,” said Azhar Iqubal, Co-Founder and CEO, Inshorts.
“We have recently launched AI-backed algorithm that automatically summarizes a full-length news article to 60 words news brief, generating faster, effective and 10x more news articles. Through this feature, users will have access to a wider set of stories, personalized based on their interests. Thus, keeping them from losing interest and retaining a user for a longer period,” Azhar added.
Inshorts has seen other interesting trends from the perspective of user engagement on the app, such as Open Rate and Average Sessions per user per month. As per App Annie data, when ranking the top 10 News & Magazines category by MAU by Open Rate, Inshorts ranks at the top. It is also seen that Inshorts has the highest average number of sessions a day per user, in May 2018.
