JEE Advanced 2024: Comparing India’s top 7 IIT’s under placements, rankings & salary categories

It ranks 25th for Minerals and Mining, 30 in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, 42 for Civil and Structural Engineering, 57 for Mechanical, Aeronautical, and Manufacturing Engineering, 63 for Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and 64 for Chemical Engineering.

In the December drive of IIT Bombay, 22 students received Rs one crore plus offers in phase I of placement. Further, three were domestic while 19 were at international locations. In 2022’s first phase of placements, the institute received over 1500 offers made by over 400 organisations.

The average salary offered to IIT Bombay students has been continuously increasing for the past few years. The average salary of the 2017 placement season was 11.41 lakh per annum (approx), which then increased to Rs 18.5 lakh per annum (approx) in 2018 and then to Rs 10.34 lakh per annum (approx) in 2019.

IIT Kanpur

Securing a sixth rank under the research category, IIT Kanpur remains one of the best choices for the students. The Institute offers various e-master degree programmes along with several short-term courses for both humanities and science disciplines. It has also achieved a remarkable milestone by filing a total of 122 Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and achieving an exceptional licensing rate of around 14 per cent to industry partners in 2023.

In 2023, a total of 989 offers, including 22 international offers were received in the first phase of the 2023-24 placement session at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K). The current average salary stands at Rs 26.27 lakh per annum.

Out of the 989 offers, 913 students, including those with Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs), have secured placements. In the first phase, IIT Kanpur witnessed the participation of industry giants such as Microsoft, Fujitsu, Samsung, Reliance, Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, Deutsche Bank, Tata Projects, Navi, Uniorbit, ICICI Bank, EXL, NPCI, Intel, TSMC, Bajaj Auto, Tata Steel, HPCL, SECI, C-DOT, NVIDIA, and more.

IIT Roorkee

The Institute was placed at fifth rank under engineering category for NIRF 2023, while in research it secured seventh position. In 2023, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee students secured three international and 358 domestic offers.

Some of the main companies that hired students from IIT Roorkee were Accenture Japan, Acuvon Consulting Private, American Express, Auronova Consulting, Axis Bank, Barclays, Clear, Demsyt, Edgeverve Systems, Groww, Headout, Hilti Technology Solutions India, ICICI Lombard, Infoedge, Inito, Meesho, Nation with Namo, Palo Alto Network, Samsung R&D Institute, Delhi Schlumberger, Sedemac, Skiify Solutions, Standard Chartered, SuperAGI, Tata AiG, Wells Fargo etc.

IIT Kharagpur

Ranking fifth in India and 59 in Asia, according to the latest edition of QS Asia World University Ranking for 2024, IIT Kharagpur is one of the renowned institutions in the country. The Institute in NIRF 2023 ranked at the 5th spot under research category, while for engineering category, it was placed at 6th spot.

IIT Kharagpur placement saw several top recruiting companies participated, including Apple, Airbus, CapitalOne, EXL Services, Google, Microsoft, Square Point, Rubrik, IBM, Puma, Capgemini, Deloitte, EY, ICICI Bank, Cognizant, Aditya Birla Group, Lenovo and others.

Lately, the Kharagpur-based institute announced several reforms in its UG programmes for sessions starting from the academic year 2024-25. The reforms are in line with the National Educational Policy (NEP 2020), IIT Kharagpur said.

From the academic year 2024-25, admission to all UG programmes will be for five-year – BTech and BS levels only. The students will be able to opt for the five-year dual degree programmes after the second or third year of their study.
