Gurugram : Ministry of electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) is implementing project to train 1.14 lakh persons under academic activities (formal and non-formal courses) and more than 13,000 government officials to create security awareness among internet users through direct & indirect mode by March 2020, a top official from Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) said at an ASSOCHAM event held in Gurugram recently.
Ministry of electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) is implementing the project ‘Information Security Education and Awareness’ (ISEA) project with an objective of capacity building in the area of information security, training of government personnel and creation of mass information security awareness said, Mr Dipak Singh, Sr. Director, Ministry of Electronics and IT while addressing an ASSOCHAM Cybersuraksha Youth Awareness Campaign held at Ansal University in Gurugram.
More than 71,000 candidates were trained under ISEA project by 51 institutions across the country. National institute of electronics and information technology (NIELIT) as part of information security education and awareness (ISEA) project is implementing a robust certification mechanism in information security, said Mr Singh.
“MeitY has also directed all Central government ministries / department, state government/ UTs and critical sector to earmark 10% of annual IT budget to implement cyber security”.
He said, MeitY is in process of notifying a policy for public procurement to promote domestic cyber security industry.
Mr Shamsher Singh, ACP crime, Gurugram police said the first cyber police station of Haryana has been established at Gurugram where cyber offences related cases are registered. It acts as a monitoring hub for all kinds of online and tech-related crime, said Mr Singh.
Mr. Singh further said, support capacity building activities by enabling Education, Training and Awareness activities for creating skilled manpower and spreading cyber security awareness among officers & public. Also encourage the adoption of information security best practices by all entities and Stakeholders in the Government, public & private sector and citizens that is consistent with industry standards.
“To create a safe cyber society in Haryana, by generating adequate trust and confidence in IT/ICT/Information process systems in Haryana cyberspace and thereby enhance adoption of secured IT and ICT infrastructure in all sectors of economy”, said Mr. Munish Chandan, Chief Information Security Officer, State e-Gov Mission Team, Government of Haryana.
Mr. Chandan emphasised for a robust cyber security policy framework for design of security policies and promotion for enabling actions for compliance to national and international standards. Strengthen the regulatory framework for ensuring safe cyber ecosystem or safe cyber society
“Establish and create Haryana State CERT (HS-CERT) for obtaining strategic information regarding incidents, threats towards Haryana State IT/ICT infrastructure for creating incident response, crisis management through effective predictive, preventive, protective, response and recovery actions and support to protection and resilience of state IT/ICT and other critical infrastructures”.
He also encourages wider usage of secure IT/ICT infrastructure by all entities including Government for trusted communication, transactions and authentication.
Renowned cyber security expert, Mr Rakshit Tandon in his address at the ASSOCHAM event said, “there is an urgent need to harness the capacity building of youth in cyber security in collaboration with industry and academia, understanding of basics Cyber Laws to every Individual to be a Law Abiding digital citizens and and to provide us a Safer Digital India.”
