Teen launches Philly’s first NSBE Jr. chapter
Khristian Whyee’s dream is to one day open an engineering firm. The 11th grader at George Washington Carver High School of Engineering and Science in North Philly is working towards his goals by launching a junior chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers at Carver.
The chapter has been meeting every Monday since January to discuss ways to engage more students of color with engineering. “What I seek to gain out of NSBE is a sense of community, a sense of belonging,” Whyee told Technical.ly.

There are 8.5 million registered voters in Pennsylvania, and more than 2.8 million in the Philadelphia region. In recent elections, half or more haven’t actually cast a ballot. WeVote is an initiative from the Committee of Seventy to reverse that trend.
