Schneider Electric seeks to become industrial tech firm

Schneider Electric, a leading digital transformation company in energy management, automation and sustainability, is shifting to become an industrial technology firm providing software and solutions, catering to enterprises’ corporate sustainability strategies.

Mongkhon Tangsiriwit, cluster president of Schneider Electric Thailand, Laos and Myanmar, said climate change is a huge challenge that requires collaboration across all levels globally.

He said the company is transforming to become an industrial technology leader, aiming to unlock the potential of Thai organisations in terms of sustainability via digital technology, software and artificial intelligence (AI).

Schneider aims to help customers achieve decarbonisation, resiliency and efficiency through sustainability, focusing on digitisation of power management via decarbonised electrical networks and distributing energy through micro grids that decarbonise and optimise energy while ensuring resilience.

The company invested in AI and machine learning technology to help clients, providing energy and sustainability consultancy.

Mr Mongkhon said the company is committed to innovations supporting sustainability, enhancing its software portfolio.

Schneider’s electrification, digitisation and automation solutions reduce customers’ emissions, cutting carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 112 million tonnes last year, he said.

Recently Schneider Electric and Milieu Insight conducted a sustainability goals survey among 4,500 corporate leaders in Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Vietnam and Thailand to gather their perspectives on sustainability and the environment.

The respondents were mid-level to senior executives in the private sector, answering 30 sustainability-related questions, including the impact on their businesses.

A key finding was more than 90% of businesses acknowledged digital transformation is a crucial sustainability driver. Many organisations also focused on energy efficiency as a fundamental component of their sustainable strategies.

In Thailand, 98% of the 500 organisations involved said they have sustainability plans and objectives. However, only 53% have clearly implemented a comprehensive sustainability strategy.

The Thai government has committed to reducing CO2 emissions by 30% and making renewable energy account for 30% of power generation by 2030.

The country is also committed to making electric vehicles account for 100% of new car production by 2035, as well as achieving “net zero” by 2065, a balance between emissions and absorption.

Schneider Electric has operated in Thailand for more than 40 years.

The company has 1,500 local employees and more than 5,000 partners and customers.

Schneider Electric posted record revenue last year of €36 billion, growth of 13%, and expects global revenue growth of 6-8% in 2024, attributed to a strong and dynamic global market.
