Tech News of the Week in India: The US Government has filed an antitrust lawsuit against Apple, accusing the company of anti-competitive malpractices, and Microsoft has officially unveiled its set of AI-powered surface laptops for enterprises and businesses.

    Apple vs US Govt

    The Justice Department along with 16 other state and district attorneys general, USA, have dragged Apple to the courts with an antitrust lawsuit, where, Apple is being accused of “monopolization or attempted monopolisation of smartphone markets” and is said to be in violation of Section 2 of the Sherman Act. The lawsuit comes just a few weeks after Apple opened up the iPhone ecosystem in Europe, allowing users to sideload, use third-party payment gateways, and enable the ability to set a third-party web browser as the default browser. If proven guilty, Apple might have to open up its ecosystem by making its devices cross-platform/service-compatible.

    Microsoft Surface AI laptops

    Microsoft’s first set of AI laptops, powered by the Intel Core Ultra processors are here, featuring a dedicated physical button to access generative-AI powered Copilot. The Surface 10 Pro and the Surface Laptop 6 offer the best of AI features from Microsoft, powered by the NPU on the Core Ultra chip. Right now, these laptops are available exclusively for enterprise customers, and they are being called Surface Laptop 6 for Business and Surface Pro 10 for Business. Microsoft is speculated to host a new AI event on May 20, where, the company is expected to announce new AI features for Windows 11 PCs, and the company could also introduce the consumer versions of the Surface Laptop 6 and the Surface Pro 10.

    Call of Duty Warzone Mobile is now available for Android, and iOS smartphones

    Activision’s most anticipated smartphone videogame, Call of Duty: Warzone is now available for eligible Android and iOS devices for free of cost. This is currently one of the most graphics-intensive battle royale-style video games. Within a day of launch, the company has issued updates to improve the overall gaming experience. With this title, Activision is offering console-quality graphics along with new maps such as Verdansk and Rebirth Island.

    Android 15 Developer Preview 2

    Google has released the 2nd developer preview of Android 15 and has also unveiled the official Android 15 logo. Available for select Pixel smartphones, the early version of Android 15 hints at some significant improvements, including better support for cover screens on folding smartphones, satellite connectivity integration, improved NFC functionality, and more. Google will officially showcase Android 15 at the upcoming I/O 2024 developer conference, and the company is likely to release the stable version of the same in the second half of 2024.
