Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) is the premier academic institution in India with a motto of Inventing & Innovating in Technology for Humanity (IITH). Dr Srivari Chandrasekhar, Secretary, DST, GOI, has inaugurated the TRP facility in the august presence of Dr BVR Mohan Reddy, Chairman, BoG, IITH, Mr SAITO Mitsunori, Chief Representative, JICA, Mr. Shingo Miyamoto, Minister of Economic & Development, Embassy of Japan, Prof B S Murty, Director, IITH. Prof KVL Subramaniam, Dean (Planning), IITH, Prof Ch Subrahmanyam, FIC, TRP, has welcomed the gathering and delivered the welcome address. On this occasion, Dr Srivari Chandrasekhar has kindly accepted to be Honorary Professor at the Department of Chemistry, IITH.
IITH TRP aims to provide infrastructure & facilities for industry partners to co-locate Research & Technology Development centers at the IITH Campus. Funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India to the tune of Rs, 75 Crores towards capital expenses, this 1.5 Lakhs sq. ft. building shall feature facilities on par with world standards. The TRP at IITH is administered as an independent Section 8 Company, founded, promoted & hosted by IITH & industry professionals to bring the industry close to IITH so that we can develop innovative technologies through collaboration.
TRP at IITH has an approximate built-up area of 1,50,000 sq. ft. with 11 individual towers of different levels connected with corridors, a laboratory complex comprising seven other-sized square footprint blocks interconnected with covered corridors. It provides re-configurable spaces and provisions for including wet and dry labs, Entrance & Courtyard canopies in the combination of Glass & Steel., Floors with cantilevered slabs spanning from 0.6m to 1.5m, Internal Courtyard with Tensile fabric structure, the combination of exposed concrete finishes & painted plaster surfaces, Dry Research Labs (16 No.), Wet Research Labs (16 No.), Seminar Rooms (2 No), Conference Rooms (14 No) and Admin Offices (2 Rooms).
Inaugurating the facility, Dr Srivari Chandrasekhar, Secretary, DST, GOI, said, “Let me assure that the Government of India is committed to technological development as presented by Hon’ble Financial Minister during Budget, 2022. Hyderabad is a very vibrant entrepreneur ecosystem. These TRP (Technology Research Park) & TIP (Technology Incubation Park) buildings conceived by Prof Murty are testimonial facilities for those who can’t work at home. I urge our youth to go from Job-seeker to Job-giver and all premier institutes to work more non-software technologies. IITs are pioneer technological institutes in the country, and IITH is exceptional among them with the unique instinct to take remarkable.”
Congratulating IITH on this accomplishment, Mr SAITO Mitsunori, Chief Representative, JICA, said, “It is my honor to be part of TRP’s inauguration on the 70th anniversary of India-Japan Friendly Relations. For more than a decade, JICA has been collaborating with IITH for Human Resources, Research projects & several other initiatives. I am delighted to know Suzuki Motor Corporation is the first occupant of this facility. I am confident it will foster & boost the technological development further.”
Speaking on this occasion, Mr Shingo Miyamoto, Minister of Economic and Development, Embassy of Japan, said, “It is a great occasion to celebrate the relation of Education Technology Industry & Innovation today on the 70th anniversary of the Indian-Japan collaboration. I am amazed to see IITH alumni making a mark with their technological expertise and getting deep into the Japanese culture and tradition. I congratulate both IITH and Japan on occasion.”
On occasion, Dr BVR Mohan Reddy, Chairman, BoG, IITH, expressed his delight & said, “I am happy to see IITH ranked at par with the 1st Gen IITs in the national ranking. It is a great initiative; we have one end, technology & innovation, and entrepreneurship support on another side. With new normal in the last two years, technology has redefined the universe we live in. Hence, I request Dr Chandrasekhar to increase public funding for research and incentivize the industry to invest in technology. Research leads to innovation that leads to products. IITH has a unique blend of technology with 260+ faculty, innovation & entrepreneurship.”
Addressing the gathering, Prof B S Murty, Director of IITH, said, “We are grateful to MoE for providing financial support of Rs. 75 Crores for our TRP. The motto of IITH is Inventing and Innovating in Technology for Humanity. Our Technology Research Park (TRP) is in sync with our motto. I am confident that this would be a cradle for strong and long-term industry-IITH collaboration to realize Atma Nirbhar Bharat. I am also hopeful that TRP would also help grow our international relations with several global industries taking space in TRP and collaborating with IITH. We are happy to have Suzuki Motor Company coming forward to set up Suzuki Innovation Centre (SIC) at our TRP. I hope that we will have many more such collaborations in the near future with both Indian and global industries so that IITH can significantly contribute to the technological developments in the world.”
