On Saturday night, Jeff Goodman of the Field of 68 reported that Tech guard Pop Isaacs is transferring out of the program.

Isaacs was a key member of the Red Raiders’ lineup during the 2022-23 season, which saw him average 15.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 83.6% from the free throw line. His best performance of the year came in January when Isaacs poured in 32 points, including six three-pointers, to help lift Tech over 20th-ranked BYU in Lubbock.

The season didn’t finish how Isaacs, nor the Red Raiders wanted when they were beaten by NC State in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The 6-foot 2-inch Las Vegas native went 3 for 16 from the field with 12 points in the loss to the Wolfpack, who would go on to become tournament darlings and make a deep run through March.

The departure of Isaacs comes as already the third transfer announcement of the week. Sophomore forward from DeSoto Robert Jennings, who averaged 4.4 points per game, is also entering the transfer portal. These two departures are accompanied by Tuesday’s news that Denton Ryan product KyeRon Lindsay would be leaving the program via the portal as well.

Head coach Grant McCasland will have his work cut out for him in replacing three scholarship players, as he enters only his second season on the job. In his short time as head coach, he already has experience using the portal as both Joe Toussaint and Devan Cambridge arrived in Lubbock byway of the portal and were key contributors for the Red Raiders this past season.
