Tire Technology Expo Day 1: CheeShine introduces sustainable oils for rubber production

CheeShine is addressing environmental concerns by developing modified cashew oil and soybean oil (non-food chain) with a high biomass content and free from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).

The oils are made from bio-based renewable raw materials to reduce the use of petrochemical raw materials.

At the expo, Hai Li, director of CheeShine’s R&D center, explained, “The modification synthesis process is a solvent-free reaction, with simple operation and environmentally friendly. The use of modified vegetable oils shows our commitment to gradually replace the use of traditional petrochemical-based rubber oil, in line with our sustainable development strategy.”

The oils offer improved processing properties, including low-temperature performance and a good plasticizing effect. They also exhibit a low rolling resistance and strong physical properties. They demonstrate a good compatibility with various rubbers, replacing conventional plasticizers like TDAE, esters, or polyether.

Li outlined three main advantages for the use of modified vegetable oils compared to traditional petrochemical base oils: “Vegetable oils are derived from natural substances, which do not contain any toxic substances such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, so they will not pollute the environment; vegetable oils are a renewable resource and can effectively reduce carbon emissions; and rubber products using vegetable oils have low biological toxicity and are less harmful to the human body.”

Attending the expo to explore sustainable practices in the rubber industry, CheeShine wants to extend the service life of rubber products and reduce their energy consumption. Li added: “Tire Technology Expo 2024, as the world’s premier technology showcase, is a good opportunity to introduce our company and products to technical experts in the rubber industry.”
