Xbox’s Commitment to Game Preservation and Next-Gen Hardware Revealed

According to an internal memo obtained by Windows Central, Xbox executive Lori Bond reaffirms Microsoft’s dedication to future video game hardware while emphasizing the importance of game preservation. The memo highlights the establishment of a new team focused on ensuring the longevity of the current Xbox game library in light of potential shifts in hardware technology.

Bond stated, “We have formed a new team dedicated to game preservation, important to all of us at Xbox and the industry itself. We are building on our strong history of delivering backwards compatibility to our players, and we remain committed to bringing forward the amazing library of Xbox games for future generations of players to enjoy.”

Regarding future hardware endeavors, Bond remarked, “It’s been nearly six months since we came together as an organization. Our collective achievements in that timeframe are tremendous.

Everyone should feel incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved and excited about the opportunities ahead. We are moving full speed ahead on our next generation hardware, focused on delivering the biggest technological leap ever in a generation.”

The leaked legal documents from September hinted at Microsoft’s gaming strategy, including plans for a redesigned, “adorably all digital” Xbox Series X console codenamed ‘Brooklin’. Although these plans may have evolved, the documents suggested a targeted launch for November 2024 with a $499 price point.
